Our extensive experimental and theoretical study of structural and electronic properties of modulated graphene on Ir(3332) was published in reputable journal – CARBON under the title: Step-induced faceting and related electronic effects for graphene on Ir(332)
CARBON-published September 2016. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.carbon.2016.09.024
ARPES measurements at synchrotron SOLEIL
It was our second run at the station Antares on synchrotron SOLEIL during the project. We have studied valence band properties of graphene on Ir(332) by means of Angle Resolved Photo-Emission Spectroscopy. (1) Building of the synchrotron SOLEIL (2) nano-ARPES machine at Antares station (3) the sample holder (4) Iva Šrut Rakić, Vesna Mikšić Trontl and Jose Avila taking data at the station (5) Project leader Petar Pervan and Principal beamline scientist Maria Carmen Asensio.
Research results presented at JVC-16 Conference
Vesna Mikšić Trontl presented our preliminary results of growth of graphene from benzene on Ir(111) surface at JVC-16 International conference taking place in Portorož, Slovenia, 6-10. June. 2016.
Seminar at University of Split
The recent results of the project “Periodically strained graphene; structural and electronic properties” have been presented to the researchers and students of Faculty of Sciences, University of Split by the project leader, Petar Pervan. The host of the seminar was Prof. Ivica Aviani.
Phys. Rev. B 92, 245215 – published 10 December 2015. PDF
For two weeks the guest of our Laboratory was Croatian student from American school in Arab Emirates – Dominik Vugrinec. He was introduced to the project “Periodically strained graphene; structural and electronic properties” working on small projects e.g. construction of Ir vicinal surface using silicon spheres (see photo).

Research results presented at GraphITA conference
Iva Šrut Rakić presented a part of our research results on the GrapITA conference taking place in Bologna, Italy, 15-18.September. 2015. under the title “Effects of the nanoscale structural modulation on graphene’s electronic structure“. At the Conference Iva was awarded a prize for the best presentation.
Visit to the laboratory
Two winners of the 2014/15 national competition in physics have visited our Institute and Laboratory for surface physics and supported nanostructures. Our young visitors were introduced to the project activities and future plans by Dr. Vesna Mikšić Tront and PhD student Ivan Jedovnicki.
Iva Šrut Rakić defended doctoral thesis
Iva Šrut Rakić, the project team member, has defended her doctoral thesis “Manipulation of Dirac electrons through the nanoscale modulation of epitaxial graphene” at the University of Zagreb.

DPG Spring Meeting, Berlin
At the 29 DPG Spring Meeting in Berlin we have presented part of our research on alkali metal intercalation of graphene on Ir(111) under the title “Ir(111) surface state stability against Li adsorption: role of graphene” The talk was given by P. Pervan
Measurements at Nano-centre University Rijeka
In collaboration with Prof. dr. Mladen Petravić, head of Centre for micro and nano science and technology we have studied electronic structure of graphene on Ir intercalated by alkali metals by means of X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (XPS)
